The northern German defeated the defending champion FC Barcelona on Wednesday with 29:33 (13:18). The best throwers were Emil Jakobsen with nine goals for Flensburg and Youssef Ben Ali with eight goals for the Catalans. The second leg in Spain will take place on May 19.
The Flensburger, in which the back room players Magnus Röd, Franz Semper and Aaron Mensing and left wing Hampus tub were missing, had a capital false start. Over 5: 1 (4th), Barcelona moved to 9: 2 (10th). “That is too naive,” complained SG coach Maik Machulla in his first break, especially the defense work of his protégés.
As in the two lost group games, the North German had enormous problems with guest keeper Gonzalo Perez de Vargas, which thwarted numerous clear throw-in chances. In the 46th minute, Jakobsen shortened to three goals for the first time at 22:25. But it was not enough, and so the possibilities of Flensburg are probably only a theoretical nature on a move into the semi -finals of the premier class.
