— First, please introduce yourself. What is your favorite game?
James Pearmain (hereinafter James) Hello! This is James Pearmain of Massive Monster. We are an indie game development studio based in Melbourne, Singapore and the United Kingdom. I am in charge of the art director for this work. This is a game where you make the cult of animals living in the forest yourself. My favorite game is Ocarina for the Legend of Zelda. I love the sense of adventure and the creative and spacious world.
――Why did this work developed?
James I wanted to make a rogue-like battle-based rogue, including a certain-scale colony simulator element. We love random-generated dungeons in battle and rogue-like games. But in many cases, there are not many growth factors. When the player dies, he loses everything… this is the point. We wanted to create something that can be expanded with new resources every time we return to the base, while leaving the feeling of playing this roglike.
We thought that there should be villagers in the small village that is the base. Therefore, we added animal characters to help players and take them back to the village. When I came up with an interesting game to make animal cults, I was completely addicted to this idea!

The mix of James art style and cuteness and eerieness makes the visuals of this work interesting. It is a fun and unique experience to become a guru, enact the doctrine, and make a decision to teach your cult. In the actual game play, I think that you can enjoy a fresh and new feeling while remembering other popular games by mixing two genres.
――What kind of person do you want this work to play?
If you are a JAMES rogue or colony simulator fan, you will like this work. This work has a dark theme, so it may not be suitable for small children. But teenagers and young people will enjoy it! We developed with care so that a wide range of people can play. Difficulty is prepared from Easy to Berry Hard and can be changed at any time. I think it’s a game that almost everyone can enjoy!
— Is there any work influenced by this work?
I was inspired by rogue like James such as James The Binding of ISAAC, Enter the Gungeon, Dead Cells and Hades. In terms of cult simulator, we refer to games such as Oxygen Not Included, Frostpunk, Stardew Valley and RimWorld. Bright and flowering cults are influenced by the horror movie Mid Summer.
――What had an impact on the development of the new Coronavirus?
James, we started with three teams living in Melbourne, the United Kingdom and Singapore, so we have been working remotely before pandemic. In that sense, there was almost no change, but at the same time, I couldn’t meet regularly. We three have not actually met for three years anymore! Due to this, development was difficult. I think it was good that I was able to concentrate on this big project in the pandemic of the new Corona and rock down. Instead of the outside world, we were able to pour all of our power into this game.

James Yes, please distribute this work freely and monetize it! For Twitch, there is also a function that can be involved in games for viewers.
